Despite Distance... > Amelia Thompson

My art practice centers around crafting interactive objects that relay stories or interesting moments. Each object is a standalone work, yet they all have common threads of humor, adventure, and nature.
Exploration of material is the most exciting part of this process for me. Working small scale, I enjoy tinkering the materials I collect into paintings and sculptures that can be handled by the viewer, paged through, played like an instrument, solved like a puzzle, and more. When the material doesn’t lend itself to a tactile experience, I add elements such as bas relief texture or optical illusion to bridge the distance between the art and its viewer.
